Get to Know the Buffalo Renewables Energy Team

Buffalo Renewables is a backyard renewable energy company. We believe strongly in energy independence and building resilient communities. To that end, we help our clients understand their power bills and build customized solutions to lower and eliminate their energy costs using wind, solar PV and simple energy management principles. We will also help them navigate the permitting and funding process and provide end-end support on the project.

The Team

Buffalo Renewables PK

Padma Kasthurirangan is the Founder and Chief Engineer at Buffalo Renewables. A University at Buffalo alumnus with a MS degree in Electrical Engineering, she started her renewable energy career with Niagara Wind & Solar in 2011 as an engineering intern and quickly grew to become a full-time engineer and partner. When her partner & mentor retired in 2016, she launched Buffalo Renewables in 2016 to support the expanding renewable energy business in western NY.

A recognized National expert in Distributed Generation (DG) permitting, installation and interconnection, Padma is frequently invited to work with the National Labs and U.S Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technology Office (WETO) as a peer reviewer and stakeholder. She serves board of directors of the Distributed Wind Energy Association (DWEA) as treasurer.

Locally, Padma serves on the board of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Buffalo Section and is an IEEE Senior Member. She is also an Empire State Rider. When not climbing paperwork mountains or battling utilities, she enjoys climbing towers, biking, kickboxing, traveling, reading and jumping out of planes.

Kelly Bucklaew is a Project Manager and service technician. A University at Buffalo and University of Advancing Technology Alumni with a BA degree in Game Art and Animation, she pivoted fields after discovering her love of climbing and cultivating various business skill sets at other jobs. With a particular interest in emerging technologies and a fascination with learning, she has started her renewable energy career with Buffalo Renewables in 2022.

In her free time, she likes to rock climb, play video games and dabble in 3D printing.
